About Absolute Black Granite

Absolute Black is a fine-grained gabbro with almost no visible crystal pattern — a genuinely uniform black, which is rarer in natural stone than people assume. Most "black granite" is speckled; this is not.

Its usual home is horizontal work surfaces: outdoor kitchen counters, grill surrounds, bar tops. It is non-porous enough for food prep, it does not etch, and a leathered finish hides fingerprints and water marks that would plague a polished top.

As a floor it is dramatic and hot. As a counter it is close to the ideal outdoor material.

Living with it.

Heat underfoot
Absorbs heat. Keep it shaded, vertical, or indoors if people go barefoot.
Wet traction
Leathered and flamed are fine underfoot. Polished is a counter finish, not a floor finish.
Maintenance
Very low. Leathered finish benefits from an occasional enhancing sealer to keep the black deep.
Water absorption
<0.3% — dense, resists staining well.
