Wood-look porcelain planks solve a specific problem: people want the warmth of a timber deck around a pool, and timber near chlorinated water is a maintenance sentence — sanding, sealing, splinters, rot.
Contemporary plank porcelain carries real grain relief you can feel, and in long formats (8x48, 9x60) the repeat is far less obvious than in older short planks. Run it continuously from an interior floor out to a covered patio and the indoor-outdoor line disappears.
It will never be warm the way wood is warm, and a plank laid on grade cannot flex the way a board can, so the substrate has to be right. Within those limits it outlasts any decking material available.
