About Scabos Travertine

Scabos is the multi-tone cut: rather than sorting for consistency, the quarry runs the full band of colour so a single pallet carries cream, gold, rust, and grey. Laid in a Versailles pattern it produces a floor with no repeating rhythm at all.

It is the most forgiving stone in this library for a client who cannot decide, and the least forgiving for anyone who wants a calm, uniform field. It also means it coordinates with almost any adjacent material — the palette is already in the stone.

Scabos ledger panels are a mainstay of outdoor kitchen bases and column wraps for exactly this reason.

Living with it.

Heat underfoot
Warm in direct sun but not punishing. Fine on a patio; think twice at a pool.
Wet traction
Good tumbled. The natural cleft of a chiseled surface adds traction on sloped walkways.
Maintenance
Seal every 2–3 years. Variation hides wear well — this is a low-anxiety stone.
Water absorption
2–5% — porous, sealing genuinely matters.
