For Homeowners

Start with the stone.

Most projects start with a contractor and end with whatever stone was easy to get. Marbull works the other way around: find the material you actually want, see who has it near you, and bring the contractors to it.

Browse by colour.

Colour is the decision almost everyone actually makes first — and it drives more than looks. A pale stone stays cool enough to walk on barefoot in August; a charcoal one does not. Pick the family you are drawn to and we will tell you what it costs to live with.

Where It Goes

The room decides more than you think.

The same stone can be perfect on a shaded patio and a genuine mistake around a pool. Each of these filters the library down to materials that actually belong there — by heat underfoot, wet traction, and how much maintenance the surface will really get.

How It Works

Three steps, no phone tag.

Find your stone

Browse by colour, by room, or by budget. Every stone has an honest page — what it costs, how hot it gets, how often it needs sealing, and what it is genuinely bad at. Save the ones you like.

See who has it

Distributors publish live stock straight from their own inventory systems. You see real square footage in real counties, not a catalogue of things that might be orderable in eight weeks.

Post and compare

Describe the project once. Contractors on Marbull see it and bid. You compare proposals side by side and talk to whoever you choose — nobody gets your phone number until you say so.

Post a Project

Let the bids come to you.

Write it once. Contractors working in your county see the project and respond with a number and a message. You are never on a call you did not ask for.

  • 1
Marbull holds your county and city — never your street address.
  • 2
Contractors see the scope and the stone, and bid against it.
  • 3
You read every bid before anyone gets a way to contact you.
  • 4
Close the project whenever you like. No fee to post, no obligation to hire.

What It Costs

Material money, plainly.

These are material-only ranges per square foot — what the stone itself costs, before anyone installs it. Installation typically runs a similar amount again, and more on a demolition or a complicated pattern. Any contractor quoting you far under the low end is quoting a different stone.

Ranges reflect the stones profiled in the Marbull library and move with format, finish, and thickness — a 2CM outdoor paver costs more than a 1CM interior tile of the same stone. Live prices from connected distributors are shown on each stone's page.

Common Asks

Questions worth asking early.

Light and porous wins. Ivory travertine, shellstone, and White Ice marble reflect most of the sun and hold very little heat — they stay walkable barefoot through the middle of the day. Charcoal basalt, walnut travertine, and any dark porcelain will not, no matter how good they look. Colour matters far more than material here.

Travertine, limestone, and shellstone: yes, roughly every two to three years with a penetrating sealer. Marble: about annually outdoors. Granite, basalt, and quartzite: essentially never, though a sealer helps resist oil on a driveway. Porcelain never needs it at all. If the idea of a maintenance schedule bothers you, that answer alone narrows the library to four or five stones.

It is a different trade, not a lesser one. Porcelain will not etch, stain, or need sealing, and a structured R11 finish grips as well as tumbled stone when wet. What it will not do is age — real travertine softens at the edges and develops a patina over a decade, and porcelain looks identical on day four thousand. Some people want that; some people are buying the patina.

No. Marbull shows you what independent distributors have in stock and connects you to contractors who buy and install it. You are never buying from us, and we do not mark up the material — the price you see on a listing is the distributor's own listed price.

Contractors working in your county see the scope, the stone, and the budget band, and submit a bid with a number and a message. You read them side by side in your dashboard. Nobody receives your phone number or address from the posting itself — contact happens after you accept a bid.

It comes straight out of each distributor's own inventory system through DepotBooks, and updates when their stock changes rather than on a catalogue refresh cycle. It is the same number their warehouse is working from. Large orders are still worth confirming — stone moves by the pallet.
